Level 1 Health Education

Course Description

This course is designed to be an introduction to Senior Health Education through exploration of fundamental and underlying concepts. Students will explore and apply the Maori concept of Hauora to the wellbeing of self, relationships, and global communities. For this course there is a strong focus on using a cultural lens.

 Students who take this course will explore a range of topics.

  • Learn about sexuality; through a Maori or Pasifika lens, understanding and applying strategies to promote positive sexuality. 
  • How to take action in their personal lives to enhance their Hauora. 
  • How to develop and use interpersonal skills in a positive way for the benefit of relationships. 
  • Learn how to make health-enhancing decisions related to drugs and drug-related situations (External exam). 

In this course, there are 20 credits on offer. It leads on to Level 3 Health which is university approved.
