Level 3 Te Reo Maaori

Course Description

This course allows students to further develop towards tertiary study in te Reo Maaori.  This course requires the aakonga to complete 3 Internal Achievement Standards and at least 1 External Achievement Standard.  Two of the Internal Standards are worth 6 credits each, with the other worth 4 credits and the two External Standards worth 6 credits each.  All are Literacy credits, with both Writing and Reading Standards also classed as University Entrance Literacy credits.  Therefore the aakonga can gain Level 3 Literacy and UE Literacy by undertaking this course.  The Curriculum level taught covers all the skills required to think, work independently and increase spoken language in a wider context using all language modes - listening; speaking; reading and comprehension; and writing.  The standards include:

3.2 Koorero kia whakamahi ki te reo o te ao whaanui - Internal Speaking Standard

3.5 Waihanga tuhinga whai take i te reo o te ao whaanui - Internal Writing Standard

Ngaa Waiata o te Maaori/Songs of the Maaori:
- Mahi Tuhi/Writing Task about a famous Maaori composer
- Mahi Whakarongo/Speaking Task identifying aspects of the life of a famous Maaori composer

External Exam Preparation - Paanui/Reading and Comprehension, Tuhituhi/Writing External

Open Entry.  Achieved all Internal Standards in 02MAO beneficial but not essential.
