Level 2 Hospitality Studies
Course Description

This practical programme is a mix of online and paper based course which will provide an ideal introduction to the art and science of preparing, cooking and serving food. It will also provide a general introduction in the areas of cooking skills, restaurant service, food hygiene and customer relations.
With 20 Level 2 credits across 8 Unit Standards, you will not only gain valuable life skills and knowledge, but could also be your entrée into a wide range of hospitality careers
Students would have the opportunity to explore the area of professional cookery as a future career possibility that could lead to tertiary study. Those that do not pursue this as a career would have valuable qualifications recognized by employers and could be used to gain part time work to assist future tertiary training.
The Food Safety Unit (US167) completion will lead to Hospitality related positions in cafes and restaurants.
This course will also provide you with the opportunity to:
- Work at Salvatore's cafe.
- Complete Work experience at Happy Days Restaurant and McDonald's as part of Gateway.
- Participate in Culinary competitions.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
All food items supplied - students DO NOT bring any ingredients from home.
Full chefs uniform(provided) and leather lace-up black covered shoes MUST be worn in the commercial kitchen.
High standard of cleanliness and food safety are expected.

Selecting this course can lead to
* entry to 03HOS.
.* admission to the Level 3 Trades HAC programme.
• an Apprenticeship in Cookery, Catering Services, or Food & Beverage
• Level 3 and 4 on-job qualifications in Cookery, Catering Services, or Food & Beverage Service.
