Course Description
Teacher in Charge:
This course is HORRIFIC. Literally. All horror, all year. If you are a horror fanatic and want to spend a whole year studying horror films then this is your course. Or if you hate horror films and what to know how they are made so you can stop being scared then this course is also for you.
We will begin the year but studying horror films, how they tell stories and the tricks they use to make you scream. Next comes putting that knowledge into action by writing your very own original script for a horror film. Finally in small groups you will work together to plan, film and edit something that will scare the socks of your whānau and e hoa.
Other highlights include learning how to use green screen, trick shots, editing, camera movement, storyboarding, how to film different kinds of scenes (fighting, conversations, chases), set design, costume design, props, special effects, and directing.
One final treat will be a trip to Spookers where you will be given a tour of the haunted house and Disturbia followed by a special effects makeup session.

Drama – The course would lead to further study at MHS within the Drama department as a subject option, but would also work towards a portfolio of work for a career within an acting pathway.
