Course Description

In High Performance through Sport our passion for sport brings us together but our values drive us towards excellence in all areas. We stand for hard work, good people, keeping it humble and R.E.W.A hard. You will get a variety of opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and mind set required to be a high performance athlete including in class experiences, trips, outside providers, and mentors.

This is a double line course and you will also be in an HPS whaanau group. You will apply for this course by completing an application form. Choose it as one of your options - if you are not accepted you will be informed and will be able to choose new options. Cannot be taken with 01LPE and 01PED.


Course Overview

Term 1
Focus on building HPS culture:
- Flag football tournament
- Sand dunes and hot pools trip
- Leading each other

Term 2
Focus on developing your mental game:
- Senior HPS Waharau camp
- Various experiences within school and out of class e.g. golf

Term 3
Focus on analysing and improving your performance:
- Skill development
- Skills day
- Video analysis
- Practical performance standard e.g. turbo touch

Term 4
Focus on leadership:
Team building activities to prepare for Year 12 and stepping up as leaders

Pathway

Level 2 High Performance through Sport

This course is for students with a goal to play sport to a high level once they finish school, but will also develop you as a scholar to prepare you for further study and/or employment. Sport can open up many pathways through the attitudes and values you develop, the connections you make, and the opportunities you earn.

Recommended Prior Learning

Selection criteria – there will be several elements that will be considered before getting accepted in to HPS. Things that will be considered: Regional representative teams (the last 2 years), coach recommendations, aspirations/goals, fitness levels appropriate to your sport, and how you individually demonstrate our values.
