Recommended Prior Learning

Year 10 drama and media studies would be helpful but not essential. Creative ideas are required.

We will work with you on  the fundamentals of filmmaking and your story into a script and a final completed short film.

You will tell us what skills you need to know, and choose which ones you want to attend. Some ideas for this are: lighting, green screen, trick shots, editing, camera movement, story boarding, how to film different kinds of scenes (fighting, conversations, chases), set design, costume design, props, special effects, directing, and acting for stage and screen.

Pathway

Level 1 Media Studies, Level 2 Drama

Media Studies - This practical course will provide a pathway into level 3 Media Studies in the immediate future but also into a career in Film and Television – an industry which is booming currently in New Zealand, and looks like it will be continuing to do so in the coming years.

Drama – The course would lead to further study at MHS within the Drama department as a subject option, but would also work towards a portfolio of work for a career within an acting pathway. Also allows students to develop more skills relevant to an acting or professional theatre career, that would support their success and career opportunities within the theatre world.
