Year 10 Mathematical Modelling

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms G. Jagesur-Singh

This is an option course which runs for the full year. It is intended for students who have a passion for Mathematics and wish to extend their mathematical experiences further.

Students will better appreciate the applications of Mathematics to other subject areas. They will have strengthened appreciation of problem-solving; investigative learning; the power of technology; and communication skills.

Course Content:           

  1. Coding with Sphero Robots

In this module you will get the opportunity to learn how to code and then show off your coding skills by getting your Sphero Robot to demonstrate its Jedi moves.

2. Tessellation

In this module you will learn how to create unique repetitive patterns using concepts of reflection, rotation and translation using technology.

3. Math Art

In this module you will learn how to create your own art practised by ancient societies to symbolise harmony, creativity and harmony inspired by Mathematics.

4. Mathematical and Statistical techniques applied to Horticulture

In this module you will learn how to use technology to collect, analyse and apply statistical techniques in horticulture.

5. Infographics

In this module you will learn how to create vibrant, impactful statistics that are easy-to-understand using technology.

6. Statistics

In this module you will learn how to carry out an investigation, collect and analyse data through graphs.

7. Construction

In this module you will learn how to apply measurement techniques through technology.

8. Basic Actuarial techniques applied to Financial Planning

In this module you will learn key concepts to future proof your finances so you can achieve your financial dreams.



Level 1 Mathematics

Recommended Prior Learning

Students need a reasonable background in Year 9 Mathematics. The course is aimed at those students with a passion for Mathematics.
